Hard Times Cover

I completed this project for my Portfolio I course at MTSU. For this project I was first given the task of choosing a book I had not read from a list of one hundred classic books on the Penguin Books website. I chose Hard Times by Charles Dickens. Then, I was to design a book cover for the book that related to the story and its themes. I designed multiple drafts of covers that all centered on the themes of mechanization, mismatched marriages, and the symbol of the staircase that represents the shame and mental turmoil of a woman having a scandalous affair in the story. After I chose my favorite design I cut it out of construction paper and designed the type using the construction paper and relating it to the imagery. Lastly, I created the final book cover in Adobe InDesign and digitally mocked it up in Adobe Photoshop.
