DIANA SPENCER
Diana Spencer was born on July 1, 1961 near Sandringham in England. On July 29, 1981 she became Diana, Princess of Wales when she married Prince Charles. This is when Diana’s relationship with trauma began. Diana experienced emotional abuse at the hands of Prince Charles and suffered from depression and bulimia because of it. Emotional trauma can be just as damaging to the victim physically as it is mentally. In Diana’s case, this physical damage came partially in the form of bulimia. Diana’s separation from Charles was finalized in August 1996. Following it, Diana spoke out publicly about her struggles saying and about instances where she had attempted to commit suicide. She was unafraid to voice her honest opinions and experiences to the public.
Diana died in the early morning of August 31, 1997 due to injuries she suffered in a car crash. Despite her hardships, she was a force that never let fear stop her from doing and saying what she wanted to. She is known as the "People's Princess" because of her popularity and global humanitarian efforts. These efforts included being a strong supporter of many charities and working to help the homeless, people living with HIV and AIDS, and children in need. She was also famous for breaking royal protocol or tradition by doing things differently like being the first royal bride to have a paying job, sending her kids to public school, and making modern fashion choices such as not wearing gloves. Diana was humble and did not care about power but rather the difference she could make in the world saying "I'd like to be queen of people's hearts—in people's hearts—but I don't see myself being Queen of this country." Overall, she is an inspiration to women everywhere.
